If you’re like us, you’re already deep into planning your 2024 (and even 2025!) outdoor travel destinations. While national parks tend to top people’s lists of places to go, state parks don’t get as much love. We’re here to help you avoid making that mistake. Enter our Best of State Parks Adventure Travel Guide Series!

Not only are state parks just as spectacular as our national parks, they’re less crowded, have more opportunities for recreating, and are probably closer to you than you think!

State parks hold a special place in our hearts as we’ve traveled across the country over the last couple of years. So over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing our experiences, recommendations, tips, and tales from the numerous state parks we’ve explored.

With their breathtaking scenery and biodiversity, state parks have become our go-to destinations for so many reasons. Whether you’re an experienced van lifer and outdoor adventurer or just starting your journey, these parks offer a variety of activities that cater to every taste and interest.

A Nature Lovers Paradise

From towering forests to tranquil lakeshores, state parks are the perfect place for nature lovers. Whether you’re an avid hiker, bird watcher, or just someone seeking a quiet spot to unwind, there’s something for everyone.

Adventure in Every Season

We’ve conquered snowy trails with our dogs, kayaked and paddle boarded on pristine lakes in the summer sun, and stared in awe at the gorgeous colors in the fall. State parks offer a year-round playground for those seeking adventure in every season.

Connect with Local Communities

One of the charms of state park exploration is the opportunity to connect with local communities. It’s so much fun chatting with fellow campers around the fire or learning from the park rangers. Each visit helps us get to know and appreciate the unique history of the areas we’re in. Not to mention getting the deets on places only locals know about exploring and where to grab the best bites to eat!
